The directive comes in the wake of an altercation between state Health Minister Sharadwat Mukherjee and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Piyush Kanoria in Kolkata, an incident that was captured on camera and circulated widely across political circles.
Confrontation at Dum Dum Grievance Hearing
The dispute unfolded during a public grievance camp convened in Ward 28 of the South Dum Dum Municipality. Sharadwat Mukherjee, who serves as the state Health Minister and represents the Bidhannagar constituency, was reviewing written representations and public complaints submitted by local citizens. The atmosphere shifted when Piyush Kanoria, the BJP MLA representing the adjacent Rajarhat-Newtown constituency, arrived and took a seat in the audience.
A disagreement ensued when Mukherjee publicly identified Kanoria from the podium as an elected representative from a neighboring seat. Kanoria objected to the characterization, emphasizing his personal standing as an established resident of Dum Dum Park and arguing that elected officials should not draw jurisdictional boundaries when hearing citizen grievances.
