NEW DELHI / GREATER NOIDA — Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday expressed profound grief over the tragic loss of lives in a bus fire accident in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, and announced ex-gratia financial assistance for the families of the deceased and the injured from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF).
The tragedy occurred along the Yamuna Expressway corridor near Jewar, where a passenger sleeper bus caught fire during transit, leading to casualties and leaving several travelers hospitalised with burn injuries.
PMNRF Ex-Gratia Sanctioned
Under the financial assistance package sanctioned by the Prime Minister, an ex-gratia of ₹2,00,000 (Two Lakh Rupees) will be provided from the PMNRF to the next of kin of each deceased victim, while ₹50,000 has been sanctioned for each injured passenger to assist with urgent medical treatments and recovery expenses.
Emergency medical personnel, local fire suppression units, and district administration teams mobilized rapidly to secure the site and transport the injured to specialized healthcare centers. District authorities in Gautam Buddha Nagar have initiated a technical inquiry to determine the exact mechanical or electrical cause of the fire on the transit vehicle.
